FAABulous Football Week 14: The FFPC Waiver Finale

FAABulous Football Week 14: The FFPC Waiver Finale

Welcome to Week 14

This is it friends, the end of an era, the final waiver week for FFPC leagues. This season has flown by and I hope I was able to help your season in some way, even if you didn’t make it all the way to your playoffs.

Making the playoffs is more difficult than it seems, in dynasty it's one of the reasons I strategize to be competitive every year. Even when your roster seems to be set up perfectly things may not go according to plan and you may miss your moment, your one shot… sorry got side tracked by Jameis Winston again.

Anyways, for those of you heading into the sprint again I highly recommend rostering a couple of defenses and kickers in domes and warm weather matchups. Here is a chart from friend of the channel Davis Mattek courtesy of Starkindler, who highlighted good matchups..not just dome games.

Davis Mattek X

Another thing to consider in the sprint is leverage and ownership, you are competing in a tournament, so use some of the same game theory elements you would in a DFS GPP. The “Go Bills” trio, Nick, Dom, and Sean, utilized these strategic principles to win the Main Event for the second time in 2022.

It was Week 15 and they had rostered Zonavan Knight and Zay Jones with a key decision point on who they should start. Zonovan Knight was a popular late season waiver addition that was highly owned in the sprint, close to 75%. Go Bills chose to start a very low owned Zay Jones instead, who also had a mini correlation with Ceedee Lamb on their roster, deciding to bet on that game. What do you win when your right proved to be a lot as Zay Jones finished as the WR1 and Zonavan Knight put up a dud, catapulting their team from the middle of the pack into first place where they remained, ultimately winning the entire tournament.

Identifying key leverage points and ownership can literally be the difference between being a millionaire and well not. Good Luck, stay inspired, play smart, and finish strong!

I’ll be back next week to write up some updates on team performance and some other fun nuggets, plus will still have home league stuff available, so stay tuned.

Now let’s dig into Week 14 where the FAABulous NFL schedule makers blessed us with six teams on bye, Ravens, Broncos, Texans, Colts, Patriots, and Commanders.

A Look Back at Week 13

Week 13 Waiver Wire Wins

When I say “wins” it is in reference to the player(s) won on the waiver wire, not a performance evaluation. Because I am releasing this article after the conclusion of Week 13, many things, in hindsight, may not be a win after all. I include this section not for bragging rights or victory laps but rather to keep myself accountable and demonstrate that I am, in fact, bidding on many of the players I am writing about (for better and worse).

Several of the top waiver options were not available or right for teams’ roster needs. I included these players I did not win any shares of as well ones along with the winning bid range I saw these players go for in other leagues.

Week 13 Ship Chasing Team Standings

FFPC Main Event Teams

Tree Branches (3 seed) 1669.30 pts

This team was off to a hot start on Thanksgiving thanks to Keenan Allen, Rico Dowdle and Dallas Defense, it's not often these days the Cowboys give me much to be thankful for, so I will take it. Add in some Brock Bowers and this team won the first round of the League playoffs with ease. This next week will be a bit more challenging with several players on bye week, but the same can be said for our opponents.

@Crakrok3 (3 seed) 1713.35 pts

A moment of silence here to mourn what was one of the worst beats of all time for a fucking FAABulous team. This was another Brock Bowers team, we had decent fantasy scores from Gibbs and Warren, our wide receivers pulled through by the end in BTJ and Puka Nacua. We wrestled with some difficult start/sit decisions after DeVonta Smith was ruled out and we also pondered if we should spend our FAAB on a kicker this week or save money in case we needed something next. We made the right starts for the most part, the decision to not churn kicker hurt, and we lost out on acquiring the Dallas defense. However, nothing could prepare us for what happened next. We entered the Monday night game 9.8 points behind our opponent, we had Jerry Jeudy and they had David Njoku. This was the end result...

That's right we ended in a tie and here is how ties are decided in FFPC.

Our team was the 3 seed with a better win/loss record, while our opponent was the 2 seed with more points. We lost in the most devastating way imaginable, and because we are not a top 2 seed cannot advance to the sprint.

Caveish (2 seed) 1666.10 pts

Caveish was forced to start 3 tight ends during the first round of the league playoffs also needing a DeVonta Smith replacement. Brock Bowers and Dallas defense gave us a strong start yet again. However Kyle Shitts... I am so done with him, and George Kittle had horrendous games and put us way behind. We entered Monday night needing a huge Javonte Williams game, spoiler alert it was not a huge Javonte Williams game and we lost this one too. The good news here is we had the 2nd seed so still are moving onto the sprint in Week 15, and can compete for third place this week.

FFPC $5,000 Big Payback Teams

Leone HS1 (2-11) 12th Place 1469.05 pts

I have explained this league is not a tournament but rather a self contained league, and has it's regualr season extending into next week. This team lost, again, it's been Joever.

Leone HS2 (7-6) 7th Place 1745 pts

Thank goodness this team has some life. I said last week if this team can have two strong wins it has a chance to sneak into 6th place and compete in the playoffs. Well we managed to pull out the win on the back of the Broncos defense thanks to Jameis Winston pick sixes. We are not going down without a fight to the finish here.

Week 14 Waiver Priorities for FFPC

Below are all the players I like for Week 14 for FFPC leagues. I will break down all players into tiers, but I will have no more FAAB suggestions at this point. This is the last week of waivers, spend what you got because you can’t take money with ya…  look at the other teams in your leagues’ needs and budgets to decide what is best for you.

This article is also intended to provide value for those of you who play in deeper league formats and dynasty leagues.
